Payments & Refunds
The optional setting that lets a display take cash payments, cancel, and refund orders.
Payments & Refunds
By default, a paired GrubStack Terminal display is read-only when it comes to money — it can move orders through the kitchen, but can't take payments, cancel, or refund anything. Turning on payment handling for a location changes that, letting the display itself handle cash payments, cancellations, and refunds.

When to turn this on
This is meant for a single operator running both the kitchen and the till — most commonly a food truck, where the same person cooks and takes payment, and switching to the dashboard on another device isn't practical. A typical sit-down restaurant, with separate kitchen and front-of-house staff, would usually leave this off and process payments and refunds from the dashboard instead.
Turning it on
In GrubStack Core, go to Restaurant → Locations, open the location's GrubStack Terminal card, and turn on Allow this display to take cash payments, cancel and refund orders. This applies to every display paired to that location — there's no way to turn it on for only one display at a time.
What changes when it's on
- An Awaiting Payment column appears on the Orders Board, with Mark Paid and Cancel Order available on each held cash order.
- Orders that are still Confirmed can be cancelled — Cancel & Refund for card and other online payments, or Cancel Order for cash.
Turning the setting back off removes these actions immediately from every display paired to that location, even ones that are already running.
